"Today I have taken the most important step of my life. I have renounced violence. I have repented of my sins. I have asked Jesus Christ into my life and to save me-and I believe He has saved me. From this day forth I cease to be a Military Commander of the UFF and wish only to be a mere volunteer in the army of the Lord Jesus Christ. I will seek to serve Him to the best of my ability." Kenny McClinton
(The U.K.)—Kenny McClinton dropped out of high school, and after joining a series of military organizations, he ultimately became a member of the militant Protestant, Ulster Freedom Fighters (UFF). He was a self-proclaimed terrorist whose violent nature procured him a leading role in the group. Eventually, in 1977, McClinton was tried and convicted of 2 counts of murder and other terrorist charges.
Although he started reading the Bible (the Old Testament) in prison, his basic nature was little changed at first. But, he notes that once he started reading the New Testament, "Things were never quite the same after that."
According to a report in Inspire Magazine, on 12 August 1979 Kenny McClinton fell down on his knees in his cell, crying out to God in repentance.
The report states that he publicly announced: "Today I have taken the most important step of my life. I have renounced violence. I have repented of my sins. I have asked Jesus Christ into my life and to save me—and I believe He has saved me. From this day forth I cease to be a Military Commander of the UFF and wish only to be a mere volunteer in the army of the Lord Jesus Christ. I will seek to serve Him to the best of my ability."
Today, after leaving prison in 1993, McClinton has a Master's Degree in Theology, a PhD in Philosophy and a second Doctorate in Literature and is an ordained pastor in Moments of Faith International Ministry based in Texas.
