My Darling Princess

I was lying beside a pond of lilies, gently drawing circles with my finger in the water, and watching the birds soar into the distant horizon.  The air smelled fresh and the wind softly flowed through my hair.  Suddenly, I heard a whisper. I only heard it for the hairs on my arm had risen.  My eyes became wide with caution and I strained to listen.

"My darling princess, I love you."

I gasped.  There was not a person in sight!  Who could have said something to me so sweet?  I sat up, turning my head in every direction possible to see who could have spoken.  A large green frog croaked as it sat on a stone near me.  Could it have been the frog? Perhaps my prince charming was waiting patiently for me to kiss him and we would live happily ever after!  I stared at the frog as his throat pulsated back and forth.  Immediately confusion stirred in me as the frog jumped to the left, back into the pond.  Well, I guess it wasn't the frog, I thought.

Again, I heard the whisper, "I love you, Princess."

"Who's there?" I cried, now crouching.

"Your creator," He said. "'Get up, my darling; let's go away my beautiful one.  Look the winter has past; the rains are over and gone.  Blossoms appear through all the land, the time has come to sing; the cooing of doves is heard in our land. There are young figs on the fig trees, and the blossoms on the vines smell sweet.  Get up, my darling; let’s go away, my beautiful one.'" (Song of Solomon 2:10-13)

I stood up, unsure of what was going on.  Then excitement rose in my spirit as I gazed into the eyes of the One speaking to me.  I realized the adventure He was asking me to join on, and I excitedly cried, "Yes, Lord.  Take me away."

We ascended into the skies, past the stars and the galaxies.  He showed me His plans and was excited when I approved.  He took me to a bright cloud...the stars shining brightly in the velvet sky...and we danced for hours, embracing and singing.  I fell to my knees in awe of His presence.  Crying out, I said I was not worthy of this escape. He gently stroked my hair and gave me the sweetest kiss on my forehead I could ever imagine.

"How beautiful you are, my darling!  Know you are beautiful.  Know that I love you."

His presence was overwhelmingly warm as we drifted down to the earth.  He told me what he designed me for and that nothing could separate me from His love.  He told me He understood my loneliness and cried with me when I was sad.  He promised He would never leave me, even in times of trouble.

We reached the pond where I sprawled beside so lazily, earlier that evening.

I exclaimed, "'Lord, you make me very happy!  All that I am I rejoice in You!  My God you have covered me with clothes of salvation and wrapped me with a coat of goodness. Like a bridegroom dressed for his wedding, like a bride dressed in jewels.  The earth causes plants to grow, and a garden causes the seeds planted in it to grow.  In the same way, You, the Lord God will make goodness and praise come from all the nations.'  (Isaiah 61:10-11) Thank you, Lord for the most amazing evening of my life."

He replied with the kindest voice I'd ever heard.  "'Put me like a seal on your heart, like a seal on your arm.  Love is as strong as death; jealousy is as strong as the grave.  Love bursts into flames and burns like a hot fire.' (Song of Solomon 8:6) Goodnight child, I love you!"

Inspirational Story

The Lord has been taking me through this journey for the past few years. Sharing his most precious secrets, loving me and romancing my heart in ways I could never know. I serve Him because I love Him and He loves me.

I wrote this story December 10, 2006 in Townsville, QLD in Australia. I don’t remember writing most of it as it took me only 20 minutes or so to write as God laid more inspiration on my heart. I literally opened up the verses found in this story. Praise God for his amazing ability to speak to us in the most creative and personal ways.
