"What's interesting and exciting is that this is a new discovery. This is the first time we've seen anything from the south since the 1960s."
(Israel)—Two animal skin fragments from a 2,000-year-old scroll with Hebrew verses from Leviticus have been found in caves in a Judean desert canyon near the Dead Sea. The scrolls are currently being tested by Israel's Antiquities Authority, according to an AP report.
Professor Chanan Eshel, an archaeologist from Bar Ilan University, was quoted as saying that scholars had not believed that there was anything left to find in the Judean desert, but following the recent discovery they will be excavating further.
Archaeologist and Bible scholar Steven Pfann said "what's interesting and exciting is that this is a new discovery. This is the first time we've seen anything from the south since the 1960s."
